In its online description for the why’s and how’s of Qwest DSL, I’m afraid they talk down to their customer (me) in their oversimplification of what DSL is and how it works. In a very general way their site says “you can surf and talk on the phone at the same time.”
I Know That; Tell Me Ehy! With the haranguing of the modern world at our doorstep all the time, trying to shove their product down our throat, my visit to Qwest website didn’t encourage me any at all. I felt as though Qwest was doing elementary lessons in DSL which I guess is the point. At the same time, if I’m intelligent enough to make it through the jungle gym of the Internet to your site where I’m looking for something luscious and fruity, why do you have to feed me dry dates? “The hassles of dial-up modem connections will be gone…” Yet the continued obstacle course that is my search for information will be presented to me, yet again. The only thing I did find of interest on the Qwest website was that my service agreement would not be under contract so if Qwest were the only provider offering new service at that time, as soon as I found an ISP that spoke my language, I could cancel. Which is refreshing. Here’s a razz for Qwest and the rest, while I’m thinking of it: what’s the deal with these claims of “5x as fast as dial up.” ?? When was the last time anyone used dial up? I did in 2004 and it was pretty fast, coincidently. But honestly, what does that mean? I’ve used DSL that goes in and out all the time. My hard lines at my job still work only when they want to! But back to Qwest specifically. Qwest broadband cards are available to add some level of normalcy. I’ve found, my experience with the cards is that they’re usually pretty good. But availability of a place where you’ll get service is one thing to consider. Qwest Internet vs. Broadband internet is a battle royal I don’t even know that we need to have. With the homogeneity of things lately, it’s sort of like a non starter. All in all I’d have to say I’m pretty disappointed with the competition of DSL providers out there. That is, they’re all so similar that I find it very difficult to care much one way or another. |
